Come and join us in doing your part in helping Mother Earth, let’s all reduce the plastic bags!
Leave them in your car in a place you know you look (i leave mine in the back seat where i put my purse, i’m sure not to for get them when i get out of the car) or a foldable pocket sized one in your purse, or at the front door, grab one you never know!
Julia gave us one of the bags she mentioned as a gift to us. We love it and use it regularly.
We, too, are active in attempting to reduce our footpath. We also recycle, repurpose and compost. It makes us feel like were doing at least a small part for the health of our world.
I agree with Julia that it is important to keep reusable bags with you or in your car because you will never know when you will need it. I always keep mine in my car because I was constantly forgetting them when I began to use reusable bags a few years ago. Now, with them in my car, I never forget them on my way to the grocery store. I also keep a foldable one in my purse, which gets used a lot. It is shocking how often I pick something up when I wasn’t planning to. I am always so proud to pull out my reusable bag. It makes me feel like I am doing my part to help the world in my own little way each time I go shopping .
The plastic bag issue is something that I have been working on in my own life for about 10 years, and through much self ‘retraining’ I have now switched this reliance to canvas. I have about 30 bags in my house, car, at work, and as mentioned the little fold up guys for my purse. When I shop I do not take a bag at the check out, if by some chance I am without my canvas or fold up, and will leave the store with a pile of purchases in hand or buggy. I have yet to be stopped for shop lifting….LOL…..and once I get to my car I can put the items in my trusty canvas bags. I have also run out to my car to get my bags, which seems to irritate some people who are behind me in line…..but perhaps it creates a good lesson for both of us.
I also reuse all of my zip lock bags again and again and again by washing them and drying them out on a little line on my back deck. It works well. They don’t look as pretty anymore, but they still work just as well. I use these when I purchase veg and fruit as well, although have also used the canvas fruit/veg bags in the past. I intend to switch from saran wrap/baggies to bees wax coverings and bags that I have read about. It will be a costly venture initially but I want to give this product a try.
I have noticed that more and more stores are charging for bags now. This is a positive, although I still feel that a responsible Canadian government would ban plastic bags from use and embark on a national campaign to encourage everyone to use reusable bags!
I do find that I am seeing more and more people using canvas. Change is not always rapid I guess, but it does occur ripple by ripple!
Another way I have tried to reduce my footprint by not using plastic, is by packing my lunches for work in reusable containers rather than baggies. This was brought to my attention 2 years ago at our ‘Green Team’ meeting that myself and about 7 other teachers are a part of. We began ‘Wasteless Wednesdays’ where all the students are asked to bring ‘Litterless Lunches.’ This really caught on at our school. Most our students participate and those who do not are asked to bring their garbage home on Wednesday as our garbages are off limits at lunch (except for biodegradable items like apple cores and banana peels, etc). This at least will bring to their attention what they are throwing out. I was pleased to see that many students continued the use of reusable containers, rather than plastic, everyday instead of just Wednesdays. I try to have a ‘Litterless Lunch’ each day to reduce my footprint, as well as modeling environmentally conscious behaviors to my students. I hope one day it will be the norm to not use plastic. I think we are headed in that direction. Thanks to me + you… we can look stylish while we do it.
I just received my first reusable produce bags! They are the greatest idea and so cute. I used to try and reuse the plastic produce bags and wouldn’t use one if I was just buying a single item. I was so excited to use my reusable produce bag for the first time. Now I truly say I don’t need to use any sort of plastic bag for my groceries.
Right now I am one week into my three week backpacking trip from Panama City to San Jose (Costa Rica) with my lovely wife.
Clearly I have a big backpack, but with that I have also been carrying along one of these great bags as my day pack.
I pack it literally full of water, beer, sunscreen (not that I have seen the sun!), bug spray, rain jacket, food, and anything else one needs during the day travels instead of using a day pack.
I tie this bag to secure it, I drop constantly, I use it for my shopping bag and it has no signs of wear.
All around me, other people have back packs with broken straps, plastic bags that last for what seems like seconds… all adding more waste into our landfills.
I never expected this bag to be so use full and effective and it is a breeze to clean (after one-week of straight rain)
Congrats on the quality of this product!

Just a quick testimonial for these great bags!
